We can learn things from cavemen. We can learn good things and some bad things. If a caveman is attacked, the first instinct may be to go out and attack the thing that attacked him/her. After 9/11, our government chose to attack Iraq and Afghanistan. After we were attacked, it seems like it would have made more sense to protect ourselves and our interests. I think this would mean improving our security within and along our borders. Maybe mind our own business a little more. So, in my mind, we did things in reverse. This time, we should not have acted like cavemen.

We most likely are at the point now that the U.S. can no longer financially afford the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The options of what to do are not great. The prospects of winning in either area are dismal. The local populations, for the most part, are not on our side. This appears to be one of the biggest roadblocks to any form of victory in these areas. If the government is compelled to continue the wars, then maybe we need a "war tax". Maybe this should have been done along time ago. I think the wars would have been over by now if Americans felt the cost of these conflicts in their wallets
